Magdalene Breaux (Maggie) is a native of New
Orleans and graduate of the University of New Orleans. Maggie developed an
inkling for writing at the ripe old age of 10. At that time, she and two
childhood friends were inspired by short works of fiction published in Essence
Magazine. As a result of their fascination, they decided to pen stories of
their very own.
Even as a child, the universe and its wonders
intrigued Maggie. While her friends played with dolls and marbles, Maggie read
books on mythology, astronomy, dinosaurs and other curiosities of nature.
Maggie's mother encouraged her to exercise her mind and think in terms of
unlimited possibilities.
In 1998, Maggie decided too many novels were
“bottled up” inside her and the burning flame could no longer be squelched. As
a native of New Orleans, she was surrounded by tales of mysticism – ingredients for fiction at its best.
Living in
Atlanta and traveling to other cities gave Maggie an appreciation for the
hypnotizing force Louisiana and its unique heritage has on others. Determined
to turn up the heat, Maggie wrote her debut novel – The Family Curse –
utilizing abundant New Orleans rumors with the rich New Orleans culture as a
backdrop.
Literary pursuits were put on the back burner in
the ’80s when Maggie pursued a graduate degree and corporate life. She
revisited her love of the written word in 1990 when she became a technical
writer, producing such exciting reading material as computer manuals and user
guides for telephones and microwaves. Though she made a viable living as a
writer, the creative force deep within her yearned to be freed.
